Internet Radio
There are a growing number of folk music stations that are broadcasting on
the internet. Some are established broadcast stations that are being
simulcast on the internet. Others are available only on the internet. In
addition, most portal music sites (Yahoo, Netscape) have some folk,
Celtic, bluegrass channels. Note that the amount of "pop-up" or audio
advertising varies with the station. We think the following sites are
particularly well done:
- WUMB is "Boston Folk Music Radio" with
a variety of excellent locally produced and syndicated programs.
- Grassy Hill Radio is
"the Internet's finest all-music folk/acoustic stream."
- Bluegrass Country, produced
by WAMU in Washingon, DC. "WAMU's bluegrass hosts are musicians,
ethnomusicologists, and festival-goers."
- FolkScene.Com. "Welcome to FolkScene.com - a resource for the very best in
Folk and Acoustic music. This site is based on the radio program,
FolkScene, that was heard on Pacifica Radio Station, KPFK in the Los
Angeles area from February 3, 1970 to October 13, 2000. "
- WKSU FolkStream. From Kent
State University. Listen to folk music 24 hours a day with continuous
music.
